Engineers of the Future Event
Six Year 5 children attend a STEM event run by Churcher's College.
On Thursday 27th June, six children from Year 5 attended an 'Engineers of the Future' event at Churcher's College in Petersfield. The day was based on a set of challenges where the children had to problem-solve to create an end product, which met a success criteria and then was tested. They had to consider the roles of the people in their team to ensure everyone was involved, consider budgeting of materials, design and how they were going to make and test the end product. The tasks included building the tallest tower they could from 10 pieces of paper, breaking codes, creating a car that would survive a crash with two passengers (eggs with faces) inside and creating a rocket that would travel the furthest into the sky. The children worked extremely hard and were a credit to the school. Each task was judged on a variety of criteria and St. Matthew's came 3rd overall out of 10 schools. It was a fantastic day, had by all. Well done Year 5!
